Back to School Night



Bienvenue!         Français 3-4
       
35/35 Students     Various Ability Levels

Goals:        -Provide a safe and comfortable environment where students can take risks
                          and make mistakes
                        -Help students learn to speak, comprehend, read, and write
                        -Keep lessons practical (based on real life scenarios) and relevant to
                         students’ lives (appeal to their interests and future goals)
                        -Emphasis on culture of French-speaking world
                        -Make learning French fun!

The Class:
                   -50% in French right now, moving toward 75% (or more!) next quarter
                        -Activity/Project based  (learning through experience!)
                                    -Start controlled and become more open-ended
                                    -Examples of coming projects:  art history, country/travel,
Paris metro…
                        -Music is a major part of the curriculum
Expectations:
                   -Students are focused, engaged and active participants
                        -Homework 20-30 min/night.  Study every day for 15 min minimum!
                        -Organization:  binder/notebook
                                    -Build resource binder
                                    -Notebook (spiral/composition) for warm-ups, HW & in-class
                                    Work

Finals policy:  4 or fewer absences and final exam cannot hurt grade, 2 tardies=1 absence
            *incentive for regular attendance

Today in class we practiced some questions orally, studied some in partners, took Quiz #1 and listened to our first song of the year.

Devoirs (Homework):  Take notes (in notes section of cahier) over yellow boxes on pgs 13 & 15.  Do (in devoirs section) pg 13 #4, write 4 things for each picture and pg 15 #8.  EXERCISES MUST BE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES!!!

Mardi 25/09



Today in class we practiced asking and answering questions in French.  We did a class survey about preferences and a listening activity.

A Faire:  Use the preferences listed below to practice writing questions.  Write 4 questions for each set of preferences (be sure to practice all ways of making questions) and 2 must be oui/non, and 2 must be information questions…8 questions total!

Travail en Classe:  Vrai/Faux (true/false) with listening activity

Devoirs (Homework):  Livre (book) pg 11 #7, 12 clocks (see handouts!), Study, memorize, practice out loud Question Lists and for QUIZ on Thursday.   (Review: question lists, numbers, time, days of the week, months, seasons, weather)

Lundi 24/09



Today in class we did reviewed –ER verbs (sang verb song) and we talked about ways to ask questions in French.
4 ways to ask questions:  est-ce que…, inversion (switch subject/verb), intonation, n’est-ce pas?
2 kinds of questions :  oui/non, information

A Faire :  Pg 12 #1, write questions to find out preferences…practice both « est-ce que » and inversion (use each for ½ ).  Ex:  Est-ce que tu préféres…/préféres-tu….

Devoirs (Homework):  Finish A Faire questions (pg 12 #1), livre (book) pg 10 #6, STUDY FOR QUIZ!!!  (Review: question lists, numbers, time, days of the week, months, seasons, weather)
